The cycling route and competition schedule of Beijing 2007 International Road Cycling Invitational Tournament, one of "Good Luck Beijing" sports events have been determined. As a preparation for the road cycling event of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Beijing 2007 International Road Cycling Invitational Tournament is of the nature of Olympic rehearsal, thus the route of the tournament is basically same as that of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The tournament is to take place on August 18 and 19 on the most beautiful route in the Olympic history. It is reported that the delicate design of the route will afford the world a comprehensive appreciation of Beijing's beautiful landscape.
The tournament consists of two events men's group cycling and men's individual time trial and no women's events, and is scheduled to invite riders from 22 countries and regions for participation.
The tournament starts from Yongdingmen and ends at the world-famous Badaling and Juyongguan Great Wall with beautiful landscape along the route. In the tournament, the event of men's group cycling starts from Yongdingmen, crosses Chongwen District, Xuanwu District, Dongcheng District, Xicheng District, Tian'anmen Square, Chaoyang District, Haidian District, Changping County and Yanqing County, runs through Temple of Heaven, Tian'anmen Square, Yonghe Palace, Ditan Park, Yuan Dadu Site and Olympic Tower, enter Badaling Highway and its auxiliary road via Northern 5th Ring Road and eventually reaches Juyongguan after four circles between Juyongguan and Badaling, the full length of the track and the riding distance are 102.6km and 174km respectively; the event of men's individual time trial circumambulates a circle between Juyongguan and Badaling with the full length of the track as 23.8km. After an investigation in Beijing, Patrick Mcquaid, President of International Cycling Union, considered the landscape along the route to be beautiful and commended the cycling route the most beautiful route for the road cycling event in the Olympic history. |
